Decarbonizing the food and beverages industry: A critical and systematic review of developments, sociotechnical systems and policy options

From farm to fork, food and beverage consumption can have significant negative impacts on energy consumption, water climate change, other environmental subsystems. This paper presents a comprehensive, critical systematic review of more than 350,000 sources evidence, short list 701 studies, the topic greenhouse gas emissions from industry. Utilizing sociotechnical lens that examines supply agriculture, manufacturing, retail distribution, use, identifies most carbon-intensive processes in industry, as well corresponding carbon “footprints”.
